Remember BetaMax, the pretty much all around superior format vs. the standard VHS. Back then Sony wanted to use its superiority of this format to dictate the industry of video playback but instead painted itself into a corner that consumers were not willing to sit in....
Today Apple seems to be doing the same thing as they dictate which apps will and will not be used on their products, and which programs will and will not run on their machines such as Flash.
In the mean time Android and others are stepping in to take advantage of the flexibility afforded by using cross platform software and apps. How long will Apple be able to hold on to its market share within its Dictator run corner of the world? IMO, gradually as Linux based OS's finds its way into the mainstream as full featured, robust, user friendly, viable products that consumers can use on a daily bases Mac will loose some of its appeal. I am betting that Linux OS's like Android and the new Google OS will be able to have enough features and stability to Wow and Delight consumers away from Mac. This might be fueled esp so by the economy, because consumers are increasingly looking for "value" in their purchases. Time will tell, but in the mean time the Adobe / Apple war continues.
