RE: I can't hear the fan on my MacBook! Read this from Apple

Bummer.

I'm sure that all fans are not created equal but so far both laptops that I've had AND ACTUALLY USED AS LAPTOPS have had fan bearing failures. They were both hp's and I suppose that Mac's may have better bearings but I suspect that the usage had a lot to do with it. Despite their name their cooling system was obviously set up for them being on a desk, the latest one especially, it's air intake was in the worst possible location for lap usage. On top of that even if the fans are running slowly, twisting the unit around while in use is bound to torque their bearings.

After a year+ of no fans I'm a big fan of fanless. Diskless too I guess, no moving parts seems just right for this sort of device.
