I don't recall if I have already tried what you suggested, but will probably do again nonetheless.
About the K-03, it is definitely a step up from the X-03SE that I used before. Built like a tank, generally neutral and detailed (with the filters and upsampling selection to help fine tune to your favorite sound in a rather subtle way). I am also using it as a DAC with a Squeezebox Duet, and that sounds good, too. FYI, I'm using the DSD upsampling with CD and 4X Upsampling with SFly2 filter with the Duet. DSD is somewhat more refined and laid back and Upsampling sounds more punchy.
