Another Newbie Question. PDA for Hard Drive Controller

Hi,
Just another newbie question. Sorry if it has been asked or answered before.
Is it a worthwhile endeavor to use a PDA arrangement as the controller for a music server system?
Really a dedicated laptop is somewhat of an overkill for the project, especially if it is only going to be used with audio.
If the progrms and music are all contained on the hard drive. Is it possible to use a Palm Pilot or some other PDA as the controller for the system?
