Re: New uses for old audio equipment !

The minimus 7's and thier slightly larger brother were both made for RatShack by Foster - the parent company to Fostex.

The tweeter is a goody, and you'll find premium parts on the crossover. The 'bass-mid' is actually a fullrange driver, and sounds good by itself.

The bass issue is due to the enclosures being sealed box - great for subjective bass quality, but roll off starts at much higher level, so there is reduced output at lower frequencies.

Subjectively the cabinets could do with damping using a proprietory compound (brown-bread is good, roof flashing also works well, dynamat could also to the trick). The recess on the front will also be playing havoc with the subjective sound quality - easily fixed by a layer (or three) of felt around the tweeter.

Finally they will improve again, if you mount them on some 'spikes' (acorn nuts work well on a desk-top).

Have fun!
