Vista vx. XP Sound Quality?

I apologize if this has already been discussed, but can anyone here definitively say whether the audio is improved on Vista (no kmixer) versus XP (kmixer)? I am going to purchase a new laptop soon, and have been using WMP 11 and Itunes on my current laptop with XP...I would like to think (at least, from reading Vista documentation) that buying a new laptop with Vista will provide improved audio quality...is this a correct assumption??
