I have setup Slackware linux using webmin as a basic SAMBA server for one of my NAS setups. It seems to work pretty good. My question is has anyone used FreeNAS in a similar configuration? I am thinking about setting up another TB for FLACs (lots of ripping still to do) and I found a Pentium II in the closet which could house two more 500GB drives for this purpose. Any experiences with FreeNAS? I am particularly concerned about the cifs file sharing protocol. I am a fan of the smbfs mounts and wonder if cifs is stable enough for what I need it for (mounting to the slimserver music folder as subfolder "NAS 2").Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
