Ive been using the same Xfi extreme music card for some time now, I used the spdif output to a Zhaolu 2.5 dac. Im surprised you had good results with the Spdif output on his card Presto, I was pretty disapointed with it. My dac sounds far better when driven from my modded marantz cd67 then it does with the Xfi. Im wondering if it might be the cable im using, its a deent quality cable from Bluejeanscable.com but the problem is that I have to use an rca->spdif adapter on one end to get it to conect to the Xfi. I think Ill get a cable made up with the 1/8 plug on one end and see if this helps.
