What many suggest is that you get a LINEAR power supply for your SB3 to replace the inexpensive digital switching power supply that comes with the unit.

As with many subjects, you'll find opinions all over the place. The thought is that a strong linear supply makes less noise than the digital supply. That argument carries the greatest weight if you are using the SB3's internal DAC to feed the analog input of your stereo.

I use an external DAC and my opinion is that the choice of power supplies is not near as critical (if at all) in this configuration. Up until the DAC you are just dealing with a data stream from a computer. As noted, others have alternate opinions, ranging from the supply making no difference at any stage to suggesting you use one of the very expensive power supply alternatives.
