I have also ripped my entire cd collection(500 disks) to hard drive. I use EAC and Flac and have had good results. Its a bit f work but well worth it IMO. I cant even imagine listening to cds the "old" way:) As for sonic tradeoffs, I dont think there are any, if anything, with a decent dac/soundcard the sound quality is actually better IMO.
