Edward - Thanks for the advice. Indeed the QuickTime Preferences appear to have mostly fixed the problem after a lot of playing around with them - Specifically setting the output to mono, the size & rate to 16bit / 32khz, and unchecking the Safe Mode.

The speakers will still revert back to the static/reverb sound on itunes if I try to use other programs like Windows Media before opening itunes, but restarting the computer fixes this. Still a bit confused as to why this is happening, but it's much better than before when the sound was NEVER being processed appropriately!

Thanks again, I'm actually enjoying PC audio for the first time.
