CD rip speed variances

In the course of ripping my cd collection I've noticed that most cd's rip between 7 and 12x with EAC. But, every now and then I'll get one that wont exceed 1x. I've examined these and cant find anything wrong with them(dirty,scratched,ect.) Just wondering what would cause this.
