I would start by eliminating a sound card that derives it's power from that noisy, jitter prone power supply as a first step. Then eliminating any s/pdif conversion is desirable as I understand it. If you could go from USB to I2S instead of s/pdif that would be a step in he right direction. I2S is the native language the Dac communicates in, not s/pdif, a conversion is necessary otherwise. As far as the driver is concerned ASIO is a necessary evil with Windows. I'm using a Scott Nixon DAC that offers the I2S bus, uses external power and doesn't use an ASIO driver as far as I know. I hooked it up to my Mac Mini and it recognized it as a USB sound device. Hope this helps
