Thanks for the info.The sound has already started to smooth out after about 12 hours. It may have helped that I downloaded the current drivers.
What could I expect from better cables? The sound is already extremely detailed. I can see why some of the inmates think it beats much more expensive stand-alone dacs. I would be interested in experimenting with cables if it added even more analogue-like palpability and weight. Tuckers, what is the name of your company's cables? First, though, I want to hear what it sounds like after a few weeks of break in. I don't think I would want to experiment with mods. This sounds risky.
