This topic used to be very popular about 15 years ago. Take your time to do a thorough search on "animated fractal music" or "animating fractals" or "fractal color organ".There used to be a company called Bourbaki, Inc. that made these kinds of programs for the IBM PC (pre-Windows VGA days) - I don't think they're still around.
