New Squeezebox 2 D.O.A.

I recently bought a squeezebox 2 on ebay(new in box and indeed that's how it appeared when it arrived).
I had the intention of using it stock for a while and then at some stage (when funds allowed) sending it to Wayne at Boder Cables for modification.
Went out and bought a wireless router ,500g hard drive etc.
Then.......tried to set it up today, connected the ps and nothing happened.
Display not working...remote doesn't seem to do anything.
Checked the ps and got a reading of 5.15v on my multimeter.
Opened up the case and it appears 5v is getting through to at least the first capacitor . I measured
12v across the larger electrolytic on the other side of the board.
My questions are:
Is this a problem anyone has encountered before?
Is it perhaps possible to repair this or do I toss it and go buy a new squeezebox 3 ( bought a squeezebox 2 as I liked the idea of having the film caps on the output rather than elecrolytics).
Soooo dissapointing.......I was looking forward to having it up and running this weekend.
I have quite a good dac (audio synthesis dax) and was going to hook up the digital out for now but wanted to eventually go for a full mod and see which output sounded best to me.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
