Foocat?

Apropos the recent discussion of Burwen Bobcat RE
(the $200 Windows Media Player plugin that "sweetens"
CD sound) -- folks have expressed concern about being tied
to Windows Media Player (and the Windows kernel mixer).

Well, there is a $500 version called BobcatDX, which has
basically the same features as Bobcat RE, but can be used
with any audio player or editor that supports DirectX plugins:

And I just came across this Hydrogen Audio post from 2004
(I wonder if this guy ever finished his Winamp plugin for
Foobar):

---------------------------
BTW did you know... that foobar [will be able to] load vst [plugins]
as soon as [I finish writing] winamp-dsp?

there is a directx-plugin that can load vst and there is winamp-plugin that
can load directx. so we'll get something like

foobar <- winamp <- directx <- vst.

nice and cpu-friendly :-)
---------------------------

In any case, there is in fact now a Foobar-to-Winamp bridge
for Foobar 0.9.
foo_dsp_winamp:

The DirectX adapter for Winamp is called Adapt-X:

So I suppose Foobar enthusiasts might be able to use
BobcatDX as a plugin (via two "bridge" plugins).

Warning -- I haven't actually tried or tested **any** of this stuff!!!
