DAC for PC audio question ?

after some reading, I decided to upgrade my PC audio system by using an external DAC. Based on my reading, I supposely connect my audio card's Digital out into the external DAC then to my amp. But when I look up different DAC model, it seems to me all of them have only two analog output from the DAC. Since I also use my PC for DVD and HD ts files viewing, I'd like to know HOW I can get DTS or DD 5.1 if I use external DAC. Is the above method only good for stereo music?
