Re: winamp - DirectSound v2.45 still sounds better than Kernel Streaming

I didn't like the "classic" winamp interface, and used the option for "modern" skin.

I like that interface better than foobar, generally.

Was using ASIO with Foobar - can't remember which/what.

"I really find it hard to believe that DS could sound better than any of the asio outs...something doesn't seem right here"

That's why I posted. So that if some had not tried it recently, the latest version may be working better.

DS is clearly better in my configuration. Easily better than kernel streaming. When A/B-ing them I went so far as to match levels with a DB meter, although it really wasn't necessary - there's that much difference. Couldn't get Otochan to run.

Of course, all of this could be limited to my particular config

Hardware config is pretty simple -

Hard drive ->

Lynx two-B sound card out ->

BSS FDS366 digital crossover ->

Amps out to ->

speakers

Spoke too quick about no clicks and pops _grin_ had a few this afternoon, still - it's better with winamp than with foobar.

Yep, was getting the clicks and pops with ASIO. Was so bad in Foobar, prompted me to call tech support wondering if hardware issue. Had several with winamp today, but not really enough to worry about.
