Quiet Earth:Okay, let's see... was about that old when I got those (new in box) from a pawn shop... and that would have been... late eighties?
They're almost 20 years old!
Those little workhorses are seemingly built from low-buck drivers from Mcbride or Q-Components... The little 3.5" incher midwoofs are treated paper and actually sound quite nice - they do vocal reproduction and speech amazingly well. The surprising part is that these little babies can reach as low as they do, thanks in part to an enclosure that is not tuned excessively low. The tweeter is crappy too - it has a plastic face plate - but it sounds way better than it looks! All components are shielded.
I used to use these for rear fill speakers in my first ever Dolby Prologic 4.0 channel surround sound system! ;) They're self-powered as well, but I bypassed the internal amps and drove the crossovers directly.
Can't say I've had more fun with anything in audio that I paid $100 for! The conversion to JBL./Vifa midwoofs and Audax tweets was fun, but when I saw those little shielded drivers sitting there on the shelf... Well, I just had to put them back where they belong!
I'm so sentimental.
Cheers,
Presto
