Home Computer Audio Asylum

Music servers and other computer based digital audio technologies.

You have lots of choices

Check out a place like Sweetwater to find a lot of options. You'll be getting into the realm of the computer home studio for musicians.

I'm using a PreSonus Inspire 1394 with good results. The PreSonus Firebox would be the next step up from there. If you want better quality, Benchmark ADC1 and Apogee Rosetta 200 or MiniMe are other options.

I've read that capturing the audio at a higher bit rate will make more of a difference than a higher sampling rate - in other words, I would go to 24/44 as opposed to 16/96.

Also, if you'll be burning CDs, then you'll want your sampling rate at 44.1, or a multiple there of (ie. 88.2). Dithering from 24-bit to 16-bit for CDs is a whole other subject. Dithering software is very important - usually about $200. Options include Pow-r, Apogee UV22, iZotope Ozone 3, Benchmark NN an NS.
