iTunes... Sound Check and Sound enhancer???

Gordon says Do not adjust the vol on iTunes...Set it at full blast then use your preamp to get the levels you want. It seems that iTunes will DELETE some part of the stream if you use the level control within the computer.
OK got it.
BUT
What happens to the stream if you use Sound Check?
And what the hell is the Sound Enhancer...what does this thing do...More importantly should I put a little check in the boxes or Not???
Seems to me that all this extra stuff will mess up the sigs.
