Scrith:There are USB devices that use bus power only for "handshaking" and establishing communications, while powering the DACs from a clean and separate DC source.
I am not sure you can completely eliminate power from a USB cable for this reason, but Gordon or others who know the "goods" on this technology may be able to elaborate.
