I love MAX, but it doesn't handle Apple lossless files well. If you use MAX to generate AL files, they can crash iPods among other problems. One workaround for this is to use iTunes to convert them from apple lossless (encoded by MAX) to apple lossless encoded by iTunes, using the convert selection command. That gives properly encoded files which still take advantage of Max's error correction--which is the best available for my hardware.
