Re: Hot-spots?

I have an Asus TUSL2 MB with a P3 1.4, I use big 'undervolted' and rubber-grommeted fans - it's quiet but not silent, inaudible until after 11pm..

Anyway, somebody took a thermograph of this particular motherboard and posted on an overclockers forum some years back, and despite it being one of the most reliable and stable MB's ever made, it transpired there are several hot-spots which ideally require heatsinking, and either their own fans or good flow throught the case.

For instance, the clock-generator chip and the voltage-regulator mosfets in particular could get hot enough to burn your fingers. Heatsinking the clock-generator in particular was found to consistantly allow more stable overclocking.

I would be extremely dubious about running any PC without good air-flow through the case (IOW, with no fans), particularly if I wanted to keep it for a few years.
