gman,I have both MACS and PC's here and MAC's as PC's (Intel based).
None of the iBooks are very noisey though some of the PowerBooks where. The increased disapation in the proc section made the fans run harder.
I would look for at least a G4 unit, that is what is on my system right now I think a 867MHZ G4.
As for connecting it to your server. One thing iTunes does is make pretty long song names. This may require that you log onto your XP machine using Somba (spelling???)[smb:xxxx]. That is what I had to do with my LaCie nas drive which is basically a XP file server.
