to have a good sound from usb audio , my experience is itunes playing wav or aplle losseless in full volume, audio configuration on the mac 16BITS 44KHZ ,take a look if it's not on 48KHZ mode.. a good not too long usb cable (belkin gold pin for example) isolate the 5V usb supply from the computer and feed the usb/SPDIF card with 5V linear or battery supply .. normally it must sound better than with the PIONEER , if not it's your usb/SPDIF card who have a problem...cheers..
