You have to turn "automatic" services to manual and then stop them in order to keep them shut down permanently. Use disable for some nasty services.
There are at least 50 services you can safely stop. It is unbelievable how much dangerous garbage is running all the time without any reason.
I have seen a free utility while browsing some PC magazine that can safely shut down all services - I forgot to download and now I can not remember where I have seen it :-(
