Your question is very shy on data. You might mention CPU, RAM, HD space, sound & video card, etc.It sounds like an earlier version of Windows Media Player was working. What version was that? Does the new version freeze when the program is started, or only when it asked to play something. Does it freeze on some media types and not others? Or everything?
Have you tried reinstalling the update? Or have you tried completely removing WMP and reinstalling from scratch?
Lotsa possibilities. However, the better your question, the better the odds you'll get the answer you need.
