I am hoping someone more knowledgeable about tubes than I can offer some assistance.
I have a bunch of 6AS7G tubes that I want to test. I will use a Hagerman Vacutrace tube characterizer to test them (see link below, I believe the Vacutrace is discontinued, but I own one).
This tube characterizer is a powerful device for people who know tubes, but it does not have a simple plug and play test for people like me. I believe I need to set the plate voltage with the switch in "hold" mode and set the display to show gp or gm, I'm not sure which. I basically want to measure how much life is left in the tube.
I am wondering if anyone knowledgeable in these tubes may be willing to advise me what I should set the plate voltage to and then whether I should read the gm or gp to measure how much tube life is left? How would I know what number to compare it to, I.e. what would a new tube with full life measure, and what is the minimum acceptable measurement?
I can also trace the curves on a digital oscilloscope, but I'm not well trained in reading the traces. I could be completely off base here, vacuum tubes are not my area of expertise.
