Obviously this is difficult for me to describe, but IME vacuumtubed equipment has this characteristic* more than SS equipment, and all-triode VT equipment has more of it than pentode-tetrode equipment. Also, the BHKs sounded a little 'hard' in the upper frequencies compared with the M-60s.

* ...and I think BHK agrees with this to some extent, and that's why he talked Paul into vacuum-tubed frontends in the BHK amps.
