The problem was not in the mastering process

Any mastering house that did a job that bad would not get any future business.

Its far more likely that you have a bug in the setup of the arm and cartridge. If the arm is too massive and the compliance of the cartridge too high, the result can easily be excessive woofer pumping.

As you surmised, this has little to do with the amp, although getting rid of LF noise like this helps!

I've not had to employ any filters and even at high volumes I don't get pumping despite having bandwidth to 2 Hz in the electronics.
