RE: ESLs and OTLs

I don't know if is desirable, but i was told that it is normal for the balance meter to swing somewhat during music peaks on an OTL amplifier. (Of course, "normal" doesn't necessarily mean "desirable;" Ralph may or may not wan to comment on that.) In any case, the the meters on my NYAL OTL3's do this, but I haven't heard any instability. On the other hand, the Counterpoint SA4 did exhibit high frequency oscillation on my Stax speakers, when no signal was present. Despite the presence of the output coupling capacitors on the NYAL's, they sound better than the SA4 did, as well as being more reliable. I am also grateful for the fact that they run rather cool.
