Either method of connection is acceptable for the CD, and there should be no sonic differences.The DC offset issue is something that pops up once in a while, and is related to variances in tube manufacture. Randomly swap a couple of power tubes from one column to the other (your M-60 has two columns of four tubes each), and retry the DC control. You might have to do a couple of swaps before the problem is remedied.
Also, while you are swapping the tubes, it is a good opportunity to do the visual inspection and make sure you've not lost one or two. Dead tubes in the amp can make it impossible to zero the DC.
