Re: 12at7 recommendations for Atma-Sphere MP-3

The best sounding 12AT7s in the phono section of my MP1 were the Billington Gold selected gold pin E81CC-01, or something like that. Yes, those were made in China and had the same failing you noted - they don't last long. Last time I checked, Billington (in England) was still selling Chinese-made 12AT7 equivalents, but they no longer carried the specific tube type "E81CC-01". Those were so much better sounding than other 12AT7s I tried that I was/am willing to put up with their lack of longevity. Second best was Sylvania Gold pin 6201s. The Mullard CV4024, alluded to below, was really shrill in another application, but does sound good in the phono section, I agree.
