I'm glad I asked. I've built the aforementioned circuit, cascoded differential amp with CCS, but using 6DJ8's and the semiconductor current source. It does sound good, but it sounds different, not better than an identical Citation II I built with (the same output circuit) and a Williamson input circuit using 12AU7's. The Williamson sounded fuller, smoother and more dynamic with a larger soundfield. The cascode sounded more detailed with better frequency extension on both ends and better defined bass.
I have lots of vintage NOS 6SN7's and would have used them in my Williamson circuit, but didn't want to cut up a Citation II chassis.
I just want to do my DIY OTL properly, and not three or four times.
