Re: OTL noob questions....be gentle

It can be difficult to convey the sound of an OTl, to someone who has never heard one. OTL amps have a sound that is not overtly similar to either conventional tube or solid-state amplifiers. You might be tempted to say that it's the "best of both worlds" - but this doesn't really work out, as OTLs are pretty much in their own class - they do things that neither conventional tube nor SS amps are capable of.

In terms of musicality, dynamics and overall presentation, their closest cousins are the SET tube amps. But, with speed, dynamics, phase accuracy, bandwidth and rise times that a transformer amp can only dream about.

If you like the SET sound, as compared to solid-state, then you should really enjoy an OTL setup.

As far as being unable to demo a set of MA-1.. if you have no dealer in your region, then contact us at the factory about a home demo; the 'Atma-Sphere Challenge' as we so cleverly term it. Just give a call, or contact either Ralph or myself via email. Links are on the contact page at www.atma-sphere.com.
