Re: Atma-sphere M-60 Mk.III

The new M-60 Mk.III brings together all of the incremental (Mk.II.2, .3 etc) updates and refinements of the M-60 line made in the last several years - and assembles them in a new chassis. The left & right chassis are once again identical, as opposed to the mirror-image concept of the later II.3 chassis.

The new chassis looks like a blend between the *original* M-60 Mk.II and the Novacron amplifier from the early 1990's. The power supply cover is curved, with a faceplate of polished stainless steel. The bias meter has been replaced by a larger VU/power meter, which also acts as a DC offset meter. Bias is now automatic, and the only user setting is DC offset.

By virtue of using the VU type meter, it's not even necessary to depress a switch to read the DC offset - when the amplifer is idle, DC is shown on the meter. If it's off, you turn a control to zero it. This simplification of control has proved popular.

The switchable class of operation (A/AB) has been deleted from the Mk.III, but may be offered as an option. This feature was not overly popular, and notably increased production costs and time on an amplifier that we'd like to keep priced as an entry-level model.

The Mk.III is the natural progression of standard Atma-Sphere practice - refine and mature the basic technology which is the basis for all of our products, without obsoleting the legacy models. Owners of earlier models (yes, all the way back to the original M-60, and even some M-50) can either update their old equipment, or purchase a new set with all the changes built-in.

Hope this answers most of your questions. If there are more, please feel free to ask - either here, or in a personal email. My contact info is on the website: http://www.atma-sphere.com
