Which pre-amp matches well with Atma-sphere M60 Mk2.2?

I'm pretty sure that the Atma-sphere's preamps are a great match with the MA60, however, I'd like to know if other people are using different manufacturer's preamps such as BAT preamps with excellent results. I guess I'm trying to find one with a remote control since it is very convenient.
Also, is it absolutely essential to have a balance XLR connections to get the best out of MA60 amps?
I used to have the BAT Vk3i before and they sound pretty good. The current one that I'm thinking about is the Lector ZOE, which seems to have excellent reviews so far.
