think of the grid choke as the ac impedance that it provided by the grid resistor... but with much less actual dc resistance... and, in all probability... much greater AC impedance than a practical resistor in that spot will provide (in most but not all applications)...since the grid choke is shunted to ground... my sense is that you can use this strategy with either a cap coupled preamp output or a transformer coupled preamp output...
I only try to avoid back-to-back traditional (2 winding) transformer coupling...
