Hey all, I'm now trying a pair of OD3 shunt regulators for the PP2A3 output AND the C4S-loaded 6C45 driver (I would have tried a 6BX7, but ran out of octal openings). The 6C45 draws 5.5mA + 2mA for the LEDs, -3Vg, 550ohm cathode bias, 187Vp, AC heaters and a respectably-quiet 2mV at the output. 15uF/400vdc Solen, EXO-173, and 400ohm common cathode on the output.I'm pleased that the idea works, and I think the OD3 pair as the "last PSU cap" isn't a bad idea at all -- I think they give everything a cool "floating" sound. They're drawing about 10mA, and have no tendency to waver as I turn the volume way up.
Next up, shunt regulating the top of a Dowdy Choke in SE45. Theory says it probably wont work, heh, heh.... --keto
