The CD outer edge should never be painted with a black pen as that hurts the sound.Yes, I know what you're thinking, "but I thought black absorbs all colors." Only use Green, Turquoise or Purple. See exception below. But the edge of the spindle hole should always be painted black. Ironic, no? Yes, I know what you're thinking, "but purple is not a complementary color of red."

Also, for those Black and White label Mercury Living Presence CDs, the color Green around the outer edge hurts the sound. So, for those CDs use RED around the outer edge and BLACK around the spindle hole. Or purple. To further confuse the issue, the colors of dyes used for the CD labels interfere with the wavelengths of the scattered laser light, which lights up the entire transport compartment.

As I might have mentioned previously somewhere these colors except for the color purple absorb the colors that could be detected by the photodetector as real reflected signal. But for the most part only visible red is absorbed. Which leaves the scattered invisible near infrared portion of scattered laser light unaffected since colors cannot absorb invisible wavelengths of light. And because the nominal wavelength of the CD laser is 780 nm (near infrared) most of the scattered light can still potentially be detected by the photodetector as real signal. That's where new dark matter comes in, since it absorbs the other 75% of scattered light.
