Amazing what the brain can accomplish, phantom physiology not required!
Likely good correlation, neurologically, with listeners who are only able to hear certain tweaks if they know they are present. Expectation is, after all, a true neurologic state.
If you pursue further readings about additional aspects of blind testing, you'll see many examples of including this important bias in the reporting of subject impressions! It appears across the spectrum of the senses.
Wines taste better to those told the wine is very expensive, etc...
