My speakers are Altec 604s, but that is 15" and not 8". I do think it requires some reasonable watts to properly drive the 604s to a quality level of performance, and I am not sure that even with a lot of watts you can get an 8" to do really good low bass. Even the 604s are somewhat challenged except for in a 9 cu ft cabinet. Certainly not trying to offend anyone - just my personal opinion.
I realize there are lots of opinions out there - I am merely suggesting that the OP listen to the combination that he is thinking of getting in order to make sure it actually meets his needs.
