I like the way you're thinking, but I'm not strictly after 'cheap' solutions. I was looking at the B&C because it seems like decent value and an OK match WRT sensitivity and beamwidth.

I just wondered if people might say 'driver X is just as good but more weather proof' or 'driver Y is just as good, with slightly better HF dispersion'.

I'd like to keep it simple (about 6 watts, one 12V car battery), so:

1) the further >100dB watt I can get, the better
2) environmental ruggedness matters, power handling ruggedness does not
