Have you tried running the 414 full range, no network then cutting in the 802 above it first order real high, say 8k?
I highly recommend this as a cheap experiment. I had two different setups like this, and I must say I also had a "couldn't believe it" reaction, especially with small onkens and 32 horns.
I've been super happy with the 414 playing uncrossed like this. I recently switched over to a similar config with WE728Bs (far wider bandwidth, esp on top) but I'm doing another setup with the 414s cause it worked so good.
There is precedent for this topology in 70s Altec monitor design (with 32Cs in fact)
414s are probably the best Altec LF speaker in terms of domestication potential but they also work very well way up past the vocal range. Getting the whole voice range in one capable driver seems to me a worthy ideal.
