Home High Efficiency Speaker Asylum

Need speakers that can rock with just one watt? You found da place.

Devil is in the details

Conjecture perhaps but some details seem to be missing at this point from the other posts I see.

First, a pair will yield 3dB more output than a single speaker. Specs are usually give per single speaker and I assume you are actually listening to a pair.

Secondly. The room they are in will accentuate apparent efficiency depending on the layout, the wall surfaces and the speaker placement. If you have them in the corners, expect a rise of a few dB over the free field measurements.

Let us suppose the speaker in question has a rating of 90dB 1W /M. The pair should get you in the 93 territory. The L pads on the mid and tweeter can go beyond the "level" setting possibly adding a few more dB above 800Hz. With corner placement (you did not say) it is possible to get above 95dB with one watt out of the pair in a room, especially if you put yourself near an area of the room where the room appears to sing.

Let's suppose (best case scenario) that with these details you are in the 96/97dB range with one watt. If you are used to 85 to 87dB speakers, this is like using 10 times the power to match the more efficient speakers. You are certainly not off base thinking these speakers have high efficiency given that conjecture.
