I think mono play back must have period correct equipment in order to capture what the musicians, engineers, producers... where hearing. I have only been spinning mono for about a month and I have been blown away by the dynamics. Even on my "pieced" together system. I think the best period correct "Hi-Fi" speaker would be an Altec 604. I will go with a 604 for my home play back but for DJ-ing even though not as accurate an A7 or A5 may be the way to go.
