Hi Joe!
I have poor, retouched front and rear photos of this system in an old Altec service manual. It was called the 18-W-8 system, and unusually for the era used permanent magnet drivers. The 901 h.f. driver was used with the H-808 tar filled (Iconic) horn. A 1565 15" woofer was mounted on the H-24 horn baffle, whose dimensions are listed as 84" wide by 60" high by 18 3/4" deep. The woofer just hung off the back with no rear enclosure. So it was just a short, straight sided front horn terminating in in the flat baffle. Maybe it didn't sound too bad, though it didn't stay in the line for long. The 1565 woofer was described as having efficiency down 4 dB. compared to the 415 field coil unit. Yeah, ain't it the truth!
