I think you are over-thinking it, the air volume is common to both drivers.
Just model it like an ordinary speaker. I ignore the front cavity, it's not resonant in the passband (unless you make it crazy big). My original prototype had a resonance up around 800hz with the slot about 5" wide by 16.5" tall ( I forget how deep, probably 18~20" or so). It had two ports, one on each end of the box. I could not tell a difference with one port on one end, so most of the later ones had one port.
